FIN-NET. European financial dispute resolution network

13/12/2017

There are organizations in charge of resolving financial disputes in an extrajudicial context in those countries that belong to the European Economic Area (EEA) –the 28 countries members of the EU, together with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

By means of a cooperation agreement between those organizations, the FIN-NET network offers consumers the possibility to obtain help from their financial dispute resolution network  in order to file a claim before the authority of any other member country.

The objective of this network is to reveal and offer consumers other ways of resolving disputes regarding financial products and services, other than having to go through court, even though their decisions aren’t necessarily binding, therefore always allowing that possibility of going through court. What we obtain with this exchange of information on procedures and alternative means of resolving disputes out of court within Europe is the existence of common minimum guarantees between the EEA countries.

The FIN-NET scheme in Spain is formed by the Banco de España’s Market Conduct and Claims Department, the Investors Affairs Office of the Spanish National Securities Market Commission  and the General Directorate of Insurance and Pension Funds.

You can obtain information about out-of-court complaint schemes in different countries through the European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net)Abre en ventana nueva if the dispute refers to services that are not within the scope of these organizations or systems. .
