The Financial Education Plan focuses on raising the Spanish public’s level of financial education, in accordance with recommendations made by international bodies such as the OECD, the G20 and the European Commission. In 2008, Banco de España and the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) decided to take responsibility for this task in collaboration with the Ministry of the Economy and Business, through the General Secretariat of the Treasury and International Funding and Directorate General of Insurance and Pension Funds.
The Plan draws on the collaboration of various organisations –mainly associations and foundations– engaged in a variety of activities related to financial education in different social sectors. These sectors include consumer affairs, education, research, credit, investment, insurance and pension plans, small businesses (SMEs) and disabled persons.
The plan, established with a view to becoming permanent, has so far run two projects in 2008-2012 and 2013-2017, and has now been updated for 2018-2021.
