Fee for depositing cash in a third party account

Accepting cash deposits in an account held at the bank where the deposit is made is an essential cash service so may not be charged for separately. In this case, the cost of cash services is covered by the account maintenance fee.

Consequently, provided the person making the cash deposit does not request any additional services, banks are not entitled to charge any fees. Identifying who makes the cash deposit cannot be considered an additional service subject to charges. However, specifying the purpose of the cash deposit, for instance, can in fact be considered an additional service.
