June 1st: “On a day like today, the European Central Bank (ECB) was created”
The ECB is the European Union’s institution that represents the core element of the Eurosystem and the Single Supervisory Mechanism. Over 2.500 people from all over Europe work at the ECB’s facilities in Frankfurt am Main. They carry out a wide range of tasks in close collaboration with the Eurosystem’s national central banks and, regarding banking supervision, with the Single Supervisory Mechanism’s national supervisors.
