The Banco de España visits 189 bank branches without prior warning to oversee the attention afforded to customers

In March, inspection teams from the Banco de España’s Market Conduct Department performed unannounced on-site inspections of 189 bank branches belonging to 12 different banks. The unusual feature of these on-site inspections was that inspectors descended on numerous branches of the same bank at the same time with no advance warning. Once there, they gathered together all the information necessary to check that the bank was complying with reporting transparency and consumer protection regulations.
Analysis of all the information obtained will provide a fundamental overview for oversight of bank conduct.
