How much does the Deposit Guarantee Scheme cover?

19/10/2023

The Deposit Guarantee Scheme (DGS) generally covers up to €100,000 per account holder (natural or legal person) and bank, contributing to the security and stability of the Spanish financial system. As we have noted in previous postsAbre en ventana nueva, this guarantee differentiates between deposits of cash and securities.

In addition, the DGS can even guarantee 100% of sums originating in a deposit made in the last three months in these exceptional cases:

  • money from the sale of a property;
  • one-off payments due to personal circumstances of the depositor (marriage, divorce, retirement, dismissal, disability or death);
  • money from the payment of insurance benefits or compensation for damages resulting from a crime or judicial error.
