25/06/2026
The Deposit Guarantee Scheme for Credit Institutions (FGD by its Spanish initialism) has launched a new financial education microsite designed to provide the public with clear, practical and accessible information on saving, bank deposits and how the FGD protects depositors. The site offers educational content aimed at different audiences at different life stages and designed to help users understand basic financial concepts and make informed financial decisions.
This new space features articles on current financial topics, audiovisual resources and downloadable learning materials. There are also explanatory videos addressing common questions about deposit protection, articles such as “Why building a savings habit from an early age is key”, educational resources including “Learn with us: cybersecurity” and a glossary of commonly used financial terms.
This initiative sees the FGD reaffirm its commitment to financial education, providing access to reliable information presented in clear and accessible language. The microsite covers a range of topics, including saving habits, inflation, compound interest, diversification, financial planning, cybersecurity and deposit protection, with a strong focus on education and public outreach.
The FGD protects deposits held with participating credit institutions, covering both cash deposits and securities. In doing so, it supports the stability of the financial system by strengthening depositor confidence. As a general rule, the FGD guarantees up to €100,000 in eligible cash deposits and €100,000 in eligible securities per depositor and participating institution. The two guarantees apply separately and are compatible.
Understanding how this protection works, together with the rights and obligations associated with banking products, is essential for managing savings effectively.
