European authorities issue a warning

26/02/2026

Financial scams and fraud in digital environments have become part of our everyday life. With artificial intelligence (AI), however, these scams are getting more sophisticated and harder to spot.

To help prevent them, the European supervisory authorities (the European Banking Authority, the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority and the European Securities and Markets Authority) have recently published an information sheet on scams and fraud linked to the use of AI.

The rapid rise of crypto-assets, which are accessible, anonymous and often involve transactions that cannot be unwound, is making normal people a juicy target for cybercriminals who use advanced techniques to trick them. This is why the supervisory authorities have also published a fact sheet on crypto-assets.

Both documents set out the red flags that signal a potential scam and the steps you should take to protect yourself.
