Supervisors warn consumers of the risks and limited protection of some crypto-assets

15/10/2025

Crypto-assets should be taken seriously. The European Supervisory Authorities for the financial sector (EBA, ESMA and EIOPA) have again issued a warning to consumers about the risks of investing in crypto-assets, underscoring that, for most people, they may not be a suitable investment or means of payment or exchange.

Despite the protection provided by the new regulation on markets in crypto-assets, known as MiCA, now in force in the EU, crypto-assets remain volatile and very risky.

Spanish supervisors (National Securities Market Commission, Banco de España and the Directorate General of Insurance and Pension Funds) endorse this warning and agree with the European authorities’ assessment of these risks.

The first warning against crypto-assets was published in 2022. Click hereAbre en ventana nueva for information.
