Central Credit Register Report 2025

21/07/2026

The Banco de España’s Central Credit Register (CCR) ended 2025 with €3.78 trillion in financing and other credit risks reported by financial institutions, 6.2% more than in 2024. It also recorded more than 63.7 million transactions, confirming the growth trend seen in recent years. The CCR included information on a total of 25.3 million borrowers, of whom 1.3 million were non-resident. Of all reported transactions, 97% related to loans granted by credit institutions and specialised lending institutions, including consumer loans, mortgages, credit cards and overdrafts.

These figures are drawn from the Central Credit Register Report 2025, published on 16 July, which sets out the main results of the CCR’s activities during the year.

The CCR is a public service that collects data on loans and other risk exposures held by financial institutions vis-à-vis their customers. This information is used to assess the creditworthiness, level of indebtedness and repayment capacity of firms and households, and contributes to a better understanding of the economic landscape.

The report also sheds light on financing trends across the Spanish economy. Mortgage lending was one of the most notable developments, with 438,182 new mortgages granted in 2025, 14.4% more than a year earlier. Four out of five new loans were granted at fixed rates. Financing for SMEs remained stable, while lending to the self-employed continued to grow, both in terms of number of transactions and volume of risk.

In 2025 there was a marked rise in requests for CCR risk reports from financial institutions, firms and members of the public. This rise underlines the register’s value as a tool for borrowers to check their debt information, helping to assess creditworthiness and detecting possible errors in the data reported. Any natural or legal person may request their CCR risk report to review the information reported by institutions to the Banco de España. In 2025 the CCR provided close to 1.5 million reports, 52% more than in the previous year. Some 95% of requests were submitted online. This video explains step by step how to request a CCR risk report.

The report also points to an increase in requests for correction of data from risk holders, which exceeded 42,000, a 30% increase on the previous year. Many of these requests related to debt relief under Spain’s fresh-start legislation. Institutions are responsible for managing their customers’ credit information and reporting it to the Banco de España. As the latter cannot amend it directly, customers should ask the reporting institution to update the information where necessary.

To explain this process, the Banco de España has this year published, alongside the CCR report, a video on how to amend debt data in cases of waiver of unpaid claimsAbre en ventana nueva, one of the key features of the fresh-start legislation.

The Central Credit Register Annual Report 2025Abre en ventana nueva is available on the Banco de España website, together with the audiovisual materials published for this edition:
