Do you need to take a lot of money out of your account? Tell your bank before you withdraw it
As an accountholder you are entitled to withdraw your account balance on the spot. However, to withdraw a large amount of money, it is advisable to notify your bank beforehand because otherwise it may not have sufficient cash on hand. In such cases, you may have the following questions:
- How much cash can I withdraw? Is there a limit? Although it will depend on each bank, normally you should give prior notice if the amount exceeds €3,000.
- How much notice should I give? One or two days should be enough. Moreover, this way you will be able to obtain the denominations you wish.
- What happens if my bank can’t give me all I want? Your bank should offer you alternatives free of charge such as, for example, issuing a cheque, making a transfer, crediting an account, etc.
- Can I withdraw the money at any branch? In general, yes. A branch other than that at which you opened your account can only disallow your withdrawal if this limitation is expressly agreed in the contract.
Therefore, it is best to be farsighted and notify your branch if you need a large amount of cash.
