Can my bank charge me a fee for requesting information about my account?

23/08/2019

Institutions are obliged to provide us, free of charge, with the following documentation:

  • Monthly (at least): statement of all the changes in our current account during the month in question.
  • Every January: detailed information on all the fees, charges and interest rates applied and charged during the year just ended.

However, this does not mean that Institutions are obliged to provide us with any information we request at any time, free of charge. Thus, if we request any information in addition to that mentioned above, for example if we ask them to issue us with some certificate or a copy of an agreement, they may charge us a fee for these services. In any case, the bank must always inform us beforehand of the cost of these requests and make this information available to customers both in its branches and on its website.
