TrickMo. A type of malware that threatens your finances
23/01/2025
Computer fraud increases significantly year after year. According to data from the Ministry of the InteriorAbre en ventana nueva, 426,744 computer scams were reported? in 2023, an increase of 27% on the previous year. This reflects the growing sophistication of cybercriminals and should serve as a reminder not to let our guard down.
One of the latest dangers detected is a new type of malwareAbre en ventana nueva called TrickMo, designed to steal both our personal and banking data.
This virus infiltrates mobile devices through fraudulent links or malicious applications that we download. Once installed, TrickMo can gain entry to our SMS, capture bank credentials and access our accounts without authorisation.
Watch out for the TrickMo variant that ‘draws’ a fake interface simulating our mobile screen, where it tracks our movements in order to obtain our PIN or unlock pattern.
Here are some tips to avoid fraud:
- Keep software up to date: make sure your operating system and all applications are always up to date to protect you against the latest threats.
- Download applications only from reliable sources: avoid downloading apps from unknown websites or suspicious links.
- Enable two-factor authentication: this method enhances the security of your accounts, making unauthorised access difficult. The website of the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) explains how you can do this.
- Pay attention to links and attachments: do not click on links or open attachments in emails or text messages from senders you do not know.
