Don't get caught with the likes scam!

09/01/2025

Great, you're qualified for this new job! If you receive messages like this, be alert: It's very possible that it's the likes scam. In this new entry in the series Protect yourself against fraudAbre en ventana nueva, we analyze this type of crime to which any user of messaging platforms, such as WhatsApp or Telegram, and social networks is exposed. This is how cybercriminals work:

  • In the first contact they will offer you a simple and well-paid job, such as liking publications, watching videos and evaluating applications.
  • You will be asked to do small tasks in exchange for small amounts of money (you will receive bizums from 5 to 10 euros) to earn your trust, as a hook.
  • If things go well, fraud will escalate: You may be redirected to Telegram groups where supposedly other people are making money, to give a sense of legitimacy.
  • Once the relationship of trust is established, you will be asked for more complex tasks and to make large investments with the promise of greater profits.
  • After making a significant transfer, scammers disappear and cut off all contact, leaving you without the money invested.

To prevent this type of pyramid fraud, follow these practical recommendations:

  • Act with distrust and use common sense. If it's too good to be true, it's probably false. Don't you find it strange a job offer consisting of giving likes to a publication?
  • Block the sender and delete the message. Even if you realize it's a fraud, don't answer to follow the joke.
  • Don't lend yourself to transferring money to unknown third parties. You could become a banking mule without being aware of it.
  • Protect your personal information. Don't share personal or financial data with people who contact you via social media or messaging apps

With these simple precautions, you significantly reduce the risk of falling into these types of scams.
