Preventing and combating unauthorised financial activities
16/10/2025
To provide some financial services or use certain business names in Spain, individuals and firms must be authorised by or registered with the Banco de España.
One of the Banco de España’s tasks is to supervise all those offering or carrying out reserved activities and misusing reserved names, despite not being officially registered with us. This is typically called encroachment.
As users of financial services, it’s important to know what products can only be offered by individuals or firms authorised by or registered with the Banco de España and what names they can use, as well as the risks of dealing with unauthorised operators.

- Reserved activities
- Use of reserved names
- Taking repayable funds from the public
- Payment services
- Real estate credit intermediary services and real estate lending
