Safer Internet Day

02/07/2023

Today, 7 February, the whole world celebrates Safer Internet Day, an international event organised by the Insafe/INHOPE network of Safer Internet Centres in Europe, with the support of the European Commission.

The aim of the event is to promote the safe and responsible use of technology, especially among children and young people. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Safer Internet Day under the slogan Together for a better internet.

Internet use is very widespread. In November, the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) published the results of a survey revealing that 94.5% of the population aged 16 to 74 had used the Internet in the previous three months and that 55.3% had made an online purchase during that period.

This week, the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) is offering a series of activities raising awareness of cybersecurity. You can find all the information on its website.

Conscious of the fact that digitalisation is an increasingly present reality in our society, the Banco de España has been preparing a series of contents on online banking services and products, which you can find in our financial digitalisation section.

It is very worthwhile learning about all the advantages that digitalisation brings with it, although it is true that we cannot forget the risks that can sometimes arise. It is clear that the more information we have about these risks, the easier it will be to avoid them.

We remind you that in our Protect yourself against fraud section you can find various publications on Internet fraud.
